Vroeger

I remember when I left my music school in Brabant to go to the conservatory, that my saxophone teacher told me that I could come back to teach there. He told me that I had to learn so much and figure a lot of stuff out, that I would be a great teacher.

Today I had a conversation with a student of mine. This student (he/she) has to figure out a lot still. But I noticed that it is very hard for me to tell him (or her) how to work. My method in the end is experiment, trial and error. And I notice myself telling this to all my students, in some way. I cannot tell them what to do, they should find things out themselves, and find their own way.

An inspriring evening with Willem Jeths

Me and Ailed just came back from the Concertgebouw, with the Concertgebouw Orchestra, with conductor Ed Spanjaard. A great evening, with a premier by Dutch composer Willem Jeths and Berio's Sinfonia. Jeths' composition was the best piece of the evening. It got to me from the first to the last note (with the exception of the trumpet solo, to be honest). What a great music. I read in an interview with him in de Groene Amsterdammer that he is less and less afraid to write beautiful music. And so he did!
