My good friend Peter Leung invited me and Niels Bijl for a concert of Chris Potter.
This is a little video I made of the concert.
Potter set a new standard for the saxophone. Anything is possible, as far as he's concerned. But I do miss soul in his playing. It's too far out there for my taste. It doesn't really connect with me. I hear it's fantastic, as fantastic as jazz saxophone gets. But I am only half a song fascinated by the technical skills of this man. After that I get bored. I would love to hear slow ballad in which he can only use one scale, no alterations and long tones.
